Old dog health
Started By
Hello everyone, I was just hoping for some tips to increase my dogs health. She's in great condition for her age, but I want the best for my old girl. (:

Information-
Name: Bessie
Breed: border collie/terrier mix
Age: 14
Gender: female
Exercised:Walked once every few days. We can't do more because she had surgery when younger and a lot of exercising makes her limp. She does walk around the house and stay active though.
Dog food brand: Iams
Spayed: Yes
Health problems: some cataracts. Again, her back leg isn't as strong as the rest due to her surgery.

The surgery was when she leapt for a frisbee and landed wrong. :/

Does anyone have extra health ideas for her? Dog food, exercise, etc. thanks!

I would suggest water aerobics. It is far easier on the joints but still provides a good work out. Depending on where you live there are places that offer it. Or you can just buy a small but fairly tall collapsible pool (make sure the water isn't too cold or it can cause shock and joint pain). It just has to be 3-8 inches taller than her from shoulder to paw. <br /> I might also suggest minced or mushed carrots added into her diet. Also, have her kidneys check regularly, renal failure is very dangerous and can occur more in older dogs. Last thing, No Grapes! Grapes destroy kidneys and can cause serious damage to dogs just like chocolate can.
